Those who followed Werder's training Wednesday morning were not going to find the four injured players (see separate training news) as well as Daniel Jensen on the Weser Stadium training grounds. "There was a talk before training between Thomas Schaaf and Daniel Jensen in which he was told he could leave with immediate effect. That meant for training as well as the Bundesliga match in Kaiserslautern and the test matches after the season because he will not play a role in our planning," said manager Klaus Allofs.
After the training, Schaaf said: "We released him because we think he would like to look for a new club and are giving him that opportunity. ... It has nothing to do with disciplinary measures." Allofs also discussed Jensen's non-nomination for the game against Borussia Dortmund. "If Daniel says that he is fit, that's just not true. On Saturday it was about the existence of the club. You cannot just let a player who is not fully fit just play a couple minutes. Therefore no one can complain that he was poorly treated. We always dealt with Daniel in a fair manner," said Allofs.
