Head coach Robin Dutt was able to welcome back Thursday afternoon the final returnees from the national team break as Sebastian Prödl, Zlatko Junuzovic and Aleksander Ignjovski returned to training. The especially good news was that ‘Iggy' could train again without pain after recovering from his calf muscle injury.
Dutt announced at the weekly Thursday mid-day press conference what was confirmed in the afternoon. "Aleksander Ignjovski returned to training with the Serbian national team and will be back on the pitch for us this afternoon," said the coach.
And Ignjovski actually appeared to go through the entire 90-minute session without any problems. "I got back to training a couple of days ago when I was with the Serbian national team. I am doing good and don't have any pain. I hope that the coach calls on me for the roster on Saturday," said the midfield all-arounder looking forward to the Bundesliga match against Freiburg.
Werder's Austrians also remained uninjured on their national team break, even though it was full of emotions for both players. Werder's coaching staff will have to do a bit of mental build-up work after the Austrians failed to qualify for the 2014 World Cup. "The disappointment of course was big. But the focus now is on Freiburg. A victory could sooth quite a bit of the pain," said Prödl ahead of the match against Freiburg.
But before the game at Weser Stadium, there is a closed training session on Friday.
