While most of Werder's players have already entered the summer break and started their regeneration in warm weather, nine Green-Whites still have a bit of work. Those players' respective national teams have test matches and/or World Cup qualifiers planned.

The Austrian trio of Zlatko Junuzovic, Sebastian Prödl and Marko Arnautovic will be taking on Sweden in a decisive World Cup qualification showdown in Group C. Both teams are fighting for second place behind Germany with the match coming on Friday 7 June 2013 with kick-off at 8:45 p.m. in Vienna.

Germany will be playing two test matches in the United States as Aaron Hunt and the Germans face Ecuador in Boca Raton on 29 May 2013 and the United States on 2 June 2013 in Washington. Three Werder players will be active in World Cup qualifying Group A with Aleksandar Ignjovski (Serbia) and Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium) squaring off against one another on Friday 7 June 2013 in Genk. Before that, Belgium will play against the United States on 29 May 2013 in a test match in Cleveland. Croatia and Mateo Pavlovic will face Scotland in Zagreb on 7 June 2013.

Theodor Gebre Selassie and Czech Republic will play a qualifier against four-time world champions and group leaders Italy on 7 June 2013. Another Austrian is also in action as Bremen keeper Richard Strebinger is playing a four-nation tournament with the U21 team in Ukraine, taking on Czech Republic on Tuesday 4 June 2013. The Czechs would take on Slovenia or Ukraine the following day.
