The European Championship in Poland and Ukraine is getting closer and closer and Euro 2012 players Sokratis, Sebastian Boenisch and Tim Wiese played important test matches on Saturday 26 May 2012 with their respective national teams. Markus Rosenberg and his Swedish team was the only Werder international not taking the pitch on the weekend.
The German national team lost surprisingly 5-3 against Switzerland in Basle. Neither Swiss defender Francois Affolter nor German keeper Wiese played in the match. Germany's next test is Thursday 31 May 2012 against Israel at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig, with kickoff at 8:30 p.m.
Poland and Boenisch meanwhile were able to celebrate another victory as the Euro 2012 co-hosts beat Slovakia 1-0 after having knocked off Latvia on Tuesday by the same score. Boenisch played the entire 90 minutes to get more game practice in hopes of making Poland's final squad. Damien Perquis of Sochaux scored the only goal of the game for Poland.
Werder defender Sokratis and the Greek national team played to a 1-1 draw against Slovenia. And Aleksander Ignjovski played the first 66 minutes in Serbia's 2-0 loss against European and world champions Spain in St. Gallen, Switzerland.
