A national team break for 2014 World Cup qualifiers started for Werder players after the Bundesliga match against Fürth. In total, eight Green-Whites are on the road with their respective national teams.
For Aleksandar Ignjovski and the Serbian national team, the away match against Croatia (22 March 6 pm.) is almost a last chance to qualify for Brazil 2014. "Iggy" and company have collected just four points from four matches, quite disappointing for the Serbs. "We want to reach the World Cup, that's for sure," said Ignjovski. The Serbs welcome Scotland to Novi Sad four days later at 8:30 p.m. Things are also tight for Mehmet Ekici and the Turkish national team, who have an easy opponent on Friday at 7:15 p.m. in Andorra. Turkey then take on Hungary on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Istanbul.
The Austrian national team, featuring Marko Arnautovic, Sebastian Prödl and Zlatko Junuzovic, will play the Faroe Islands on Friday (8:30 p.m.) in Vienna before facing Ireland in Dublin four days later at the same time. Richard Strebinger will be between the posts for the Austrian U21 team on Thursday (6:30 p.m.) against Slovakia and again on Monday in Brighton against England at 7:30 p.m.
Theodor Gebre Selassie will be playing at home with Czech Republic on Friday against Denmark (8:30 p.m.) before taking on Armenia away on Tuesday (5 p.m.). Werder defensive boss Sokratis and the Greek national team meanwhile will only play once, facing Bosnia-Herzegovina in a Group G showdown in Zenica.
Kevin De Bruyne and Belgium will be playing against Macedonia twice, on Friday away in Skopje (8:45 p.m.) and four days later in Brussels (8:45 p.m.). The Belgians have good chances of qualifying directly for the World Cup as leaders of their group.
Werder's U20 German internationals meanwhile are still in Bremen - for now. Florian Hartherz, Tom Trybull and company will start preparations on Tuesday.
