Sebastian Prödl proudly made a post on Facebook: "First road victory in five years!" It was a good night for Austria in Azerbaijan where the Austrians won 4-1 on Friday with both Werder players Sebastian Prödl and Marko Arnautovic in the starting line-up.
While Prödl played the entire game in defence, Arnautovic was subbed out after 66 minutes for Zlatko Junuzovic. The goals for Austria were scored by Ivanschitz (34th), Janko (52nd/62nd) and Junuzovic (90+1). Regarding the Euro2012 qualification, the victory didn't mean anything as Austria had already been eliminated from a spot next year in Poland and Ukraine.
No Werder player played in the top match of Austria's group between Germany and Turkey as German keeper Tim Wiese remained on the bench as expected and Mehmet Ekici was not on the Turks' 18-player roster.
There was big celebrations in Greece and for Sokratis, who played the entire game in Greece's 2-0 victory over Croatia in Piraeus to remain leaders of their qualifying group and take a big step to reaching the Euro2012.
