After the 1-0 North Derby win, it was time for five Werder players to head out to their respective national teams. "The free day on Wednesday this week fits in better than usual. That means the national team players will miss one day less of team training," said head coach Robin Dutt before the departure of his five players.

Match winner Zlatko Junuzovic and Sebastian Prödl are under way with the Austrian national team. On Wednesday 5 March 2014, the Austrians will take on Uruguay at 8:30 p.m. "I am looking forward to the national team and my family who I can see back home. The national team break is also good to free our heads a bit after the challenging North Derby," said Junuzovic.

Werder's winter addition Ludovic Obraniak was nominated for the Polish national team. Adam Nawalka's team will be playing at Scotland with kick-off at 8:45 p.m. Martin Kobylanski will also be wearing the Polish national team jersey, albeit for the U20 national team. They take on Italy's U20 side on Wednesday.

Theodor Gebre Selassie meanwhile will play for the Czech Republic against Norway with kick-off at 6 p.m. The Werder players are expected back along the Weser one day later.
