Goalkeeper Richard Strebinger is transferring to SV Werder Bremen as the Austrian U19 national team glovesman arrives along the Weser from Hertha Berlin. Strebinger completed 14 Regionalliga matches for Hertha's U23 side this past season. The 19-year-old signed a professional contract until 30 June 2014.
"Richard Strebinger is a very promising talent. We believe that he can take the next step in his career with us and we hope that he can have some good performances with the U23 team and perhaps make the Bundesliga team," said manager Klaus Allofs.
The Austrian is looking forward to the challenge with Werder Bremen. "Werder is a super club and I am looking forward to the new challenge. The reason for my decision was the fact that Werder continually gives young players a chance for the professional team. My goal is to make the Bundesliga team through good performances with the U23s and in training," said Strebinger.
The Vienna native began his career with SC Piesting and moved in summer 2008 through Club 83 Wiener Neustadt and St. Pölten Academy to Hertha's U17 juniors. He played 26 matches in the Regionalliga and 13 games in the A-Youth Bundesliga as well as 20 contests in the B-Youth Bundesliga.
