SV Werder Bremen welcomed the news that the German national team will play a friendly against France in Bremen next February. Manager Klaus Allofs was pleased with the prominent match-up. "The game against France is a classic for which the renovated Weser Stadium will be a suitable stage. With the modernisations of that past years it is a fine highlight for fans in the region," said Allofs.
The German Football Federation DFB announced Friday afternoon that Bremen would host the match on 29 February 2012. "We are happy to be back in Bremen after nearly six years and want to offer our fans an attractive game," German national team manager Oliver Bierhoff. "The showdowns with France are traditionally very intriguing matches in the spotlight and have a high level of play." The last international played in Bremen was on 7 September 2005 with Germany winning 4-2 against South Africa with Lukas Podolski scoring three goals.
