The third edition of the International Werder Weekend drew 40 participants from 11 different nations. While well-known faces from countries such as Sweden, Scotland and Czech Republic were on hand once again at the three-day program, Werder were especially happy to welcome in new fans from Moldova and Jordan.
In addition to attending the Bundesliga match against Schalke at Weser Stadium and other interesting program events, a special highlight of the weekend was the "blind training". Since 2012, Werder have offered training sessions in blind football, and Werder's group of "Internationals" was able to get a first hand impression of how it feels not to see and how impressive those are who play the sport.
After the guests saw a good match by the Bundesliga team against Schalke on Saturday, they were able to check out the quality of Werder's U23 team next day. The group of fans was really looking forward to visiting Klaus-Dieter Fischer. Werder's president and manager took time during halftime of the U23 match to welcome the group. Theo Gebre Selassie was also there for a surprise visit, giving the fans a chance to take some memorable photos and get some autographs.
After the wide-ranging entertainment program, the Green-Whites group finished the evening with a relaxed dinner together at Paddys Pit. Once again, one could see how close-knit the international football fans are. Neither regional nor cultural differences mattered. It didn't matter if the participants were from the United States, China, Russia or Scotland, the main thing was the love of the green and white sports club.
