Background, religion, lifestyle or handicap - none of that matters in sports for SV Werder Bremen. And the Green-Whites are the elite when it comes to integration. That was certified by the German Football Federation (DFB) and Mercedes Benz, who awarded the Bundesliga club with the 2012 prize for integration in Nuremberg. The club received the honorary prize from the promoters for the projects of their Corporate Social Responsibility brand WERDER BEWEGT - LEBENSLANG.
"As a professional club, SV Werder have other possibilities than amateur clubs. But the candidacy was so excellent that it deserved this distinction and we decided for a special prize. SV Werder is a leader in the area of social commitment and persistently promotes integration and anti-discrimination. And Klaus-Dieter Fischer stands for these goals with total credibility. So from me personally as well, great respect and absolute recognition," emphasised DFB president Wolfgang Niersbach. In front of 150 invited guests, Niersbach handed the honorary prize to Werder president Klaus-Dieter Fischer, CSR director Anne-Kathrin Laufmann and CSR department head Tim Juraschek.
"The distinction makes us proud. We invest a lot in our CSR commitment. The integration prize is an important signal for us that we are on the right path and a role model for others," said Laufmann, director of the CSR management and fan and member support.
