The season is just about over with for good with the professional players nearing their holidays. There remains a bit of time between the odd test match and relaxed training session for players to overcome some bigger and smaller aches and pains. Denni Avdic, Philipp Bargfrede and Felix Kroos are three Werder professionals who have only been spectators at the Green-Whites' test matches.
The worst off is the 20-year-old Kroos as the midfielder suffered a foot ligament tear in the Werder U23s' final game of the season. Werder's young talent is currently bound to walk with crutches for the coming days. Bargfrede can also not take part in the Werder sessions at the moment as the 22-year-old is dealing with heal problems. "It's gotten a bit worse, that's why I am sitting out right now," said Bargfrede.
Avdic was also only a spectator in the stands for the test match in Salzgitter. The Swede has already returned to training but is still complaining about problems, especially on headers. "When I hit the ball with my head, I still feel it. The pain isn't entirely gone. Therefore I don't want to risk it now when it really doesn't mean much and really get totally healthy," said Avdic.
Also spending their time in treatment at Weser Stadium are Sandro Wagner, Per Mertesacker, Tim Borowski and Mikael Silvestre. Long-time injured players Sebastian Prödl, Sebastian Boenisch and Naldo also completed individual sessions. Most of the Werder players have a bit of time to put their feet up starting next Friday when many of them will head into their deserved holidays.
