Claudio Pizarro was long looking forward to his first official international match for Peru since November 2007. Finally he was able to return to the "Blanquiroja" attack. And then the unfortunate. In a challenge in the air in Peru's international against Ecuador...

Head coach Thomas Schaaf has been without his striker a number of times this season. "Of course it hurts us that he will be out. But I can't just place my hand on him and say: 'So, you are okay again,'" said Schaaf about Pizarro's injury.

There are more hopes about captain Torsten Frings returning to team training. After getting over his grippe infection, the Werder midfielder completed a running session with fitness coach Yann-Benjamin Kugel and was optimistic afterwards. "I feel a lot better already and hope to get back into team training tomorrow or the day after," said Frings. "We will then have to see how much we can push him then," said Schaaf.

Internationals back in Bremen

The same goes for Marko Arnautovic after his return from the Austrian national team. The 21-year-old has been battling with a gastro-intestinal infection and Schaaf said he could not be fully burdened in the past few days. Arnautovic, who was questionable a long time about playing in the qualifier Tuesday evening against Turkey, will also try to return to training tomorrow, said Schaaf.

Per Mertesacker meanwhile was back into the mix Wednesday afternoon. The defensive specialist completed the entire 90 minute session after being rested Tuesday evening by German national team coach Joachim Löw in the friendly against Australia. Tim Wiese and Petri Pasanen, both of whom played a night earlier, completed individual training away from the team as well as Lennart Thy and Florian Trinks. Philipp Bargfrede also had to sit out again with a lingering heel concern. Possibly he will try to return on Thursday, 31 March at 3:30 p.m. when Schaaf brings together his team for the penultimate session before the Stuttgart game.
