The season is over for Werder talent Onur Ayik as the 21-year-old offensive player suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in Werder's third division game against FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt on Saturday and is expected to miss about six months. "This is very bitter for Onur. He had just gotten out of his low and was heading in the right direction. We hope that his operation and ensuing recovery process go well and that he's with us again soon," said Werder's youth head coach Thomas Wolter.
"I had a feeling on the pitch already that it was something serious. But of course I hoped that is wasn't an ACL," said the dejected Ayik, who will travel to Straubing on Wednesday to undergo an operation by Dr. Jürgen Eichhorn on Thursday. This is already the second ACL tear of Ayik's career. Werder's number 46 suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in 2006.
