Somehow the scene on the Weser Stadium training grounds reminded one of what happened a day earlier. Marko Arnautovic had to leave the pitch early and headed to the changing room disappointed. The striker had pain in his shin and calf. Arnautovic's bruising had not healed enough so that he had to leave training early just like Tuesday. "He will get treatment. Now we have to see how it goes after this," said assistant coach Wolfgang Rolff.
"The next goal wins," was the command from head coach Thomas Schaaf, who continued the training with 14 players. Tim Borowski would end up scoring the "game winner", calmly pushing home into the corner. The 30-year-old's celebration was not the only way to tell how much Borowski enjoyed being back with his teammates after an injury break. "The impression is very positive," Rolff said.
Hunt back
Schaaf's assistant also was pleased with the performance yesterday of the U23 team, which beat RW Ahlen 3-1. "There was the odd success here or there," said Rolff especially about the goals by Felix Kroos and Sandro Wagner.
Torsten Frings and Marko Marin collected their success in the afternoon training in free kick training towards Tim Wiese's goal. Aaron Hunt was also there after he missed Tuesday training with an infection. A few meters away, Tim Borowski, Said Husejinovic, Florian Trinks and Lennart Thy were completing a separate session with Rolff as well as Sebastian Mielitz and goalkeeper coach Michael Kraft. The rest of Schaaf's team spent the afternoon in the weight room, where Arnautovic was back among his teammates.
