Initially, Sebastian Boenisch looked to be headed in the right direction in his new footballing home of Bremen. After a brief appearance against Eintracht Frankfurt, the new Werder signing got the chance to show his ability down the left for a distinctly longer period in Dortmund. The fact that his young career at Werder was cut down in his second game for the club is all the more frustrating: “It’s a difficult situation for me. I’m new to the club and something like this is not at all good”, admitted Boenisch on Thursday as he visited his colleagues in the changing rooms at the Weser Stadium. The knee injury was incurred as he swiped at a ball in an attempted clearance and hit fresh air.”I overstretched the joint so extremely that it caused the injury.”
Last Monday the 20 year old underwent surgery in Augsburg and this morning he commented confidently on the outcome of the operation: “The op went well. I feel very comfortable. Dr. Dimanski recommended the surgery to me after we had tried with some more conservative methods to deal with the problem. I have a good 15 years of football ahead of me and I intend to enjoy them in good health. For that reason it’s a good idea to get these things out of the way as quickly as possible.”
Boenisch is determined not to hang his head in frustration but instead orientate himself towards the future and that as quickly as at all possible: “My goal is to make a comeback in January”. In time to prepare for post winter break training. The pre-season preparations with Thomas Schaaf’s men were not possible as the full-back made his transfer to the Weser just prior to the fourth match day of the season. Now it’s all about re-starting his career in Green-White: “I will really have to put my foot to the metal now if I’m to move forward – and then I want to play in the first team”, concluded the youngster confidently.
