Werder Bremen’s run of injury problems just doesn’t want to stop. Two days after the Green-Whites impressive 4:1 win against VfB Stuttgart, it became clear that captain Frank Baumann had suffered a more serious knee injury than initially thought. A thorough medical inspection showed a tear to the midfielder’s outer knee ligaments: “It’s pretty much the same injury that TimmBorowski suffered in Bochum. I will have to completely rest the leg for a week and then I can slowly begin with a light rehabilitation programme. I am expected to be out of action for about six week”, admitted Baumann to werder.de on Monday afternoon.
The 31 year old clashed with Stuttgart’s Yildiray Bastürk just before the half time beak on Saturday and had to be treated on the pitch. The battling midfield man stuck out the pain to play out the full 90 minutes for his team.
Coach Thomas Schaaf will once again be without once of his first choice players for Tuesday evenings match in Wolfsburg. On a more positive note, Peter Niemeyer has recovered from illness and was back in team training again on Sunday morning.
The following 18 players will be available to the coach for the game at the Volkswagen Arena on Tuesday evening at 8pm: Wiese, Vander, Pasanen, Naldo, Mertesacker, Tosic, Jensen, Harnik, Vranjes, Diego, Schindler, Almeida, Kruse, Rosenberg, Mosquera, Artmann, Sanogo, Niemeyer.
