The game against Dinamo Zagreb will be the final game for Christian Schulz in the Werder Colours for the time being. The 24 year old has been given the go ahead for his wished transfer to Hanover 96. Werder general manager Klaus Allofs made the announcement following yesterday evenings game in Zagreb: “This has been on the cards for a number of weeks now but the transfer has come to light now.” Christian Schulz commented on Thursday: “We will have a further discussion and then I will make my way to Hanover. I expect to be able to train with my new colleagues on Friday.” Before the deal goes through there are a number of formalities to be tied up. On Thursday Schulz served up a fitness test in Hanover after which the loose ends could be approached by both clubs.

“Schulle” himself is looking forward to accepting the new sporting challenge, but reminisced fondly on his time in Bremen: “Of course there are a lot of emotional issues for me. I think everyone can understand that after twelve years with Werder Bremen it’s time to move on and try something new. I am very thankful to the club for allowing me to go.”

Schulz couldn’t have had a better farewell from Werder Bremen as he joined his colleagues in celebrating reaching the Champions League: “The game was really something special. It was exactly the right way to finish with the club in such a big game and then a successful outcome too”, added Schulz. Klaus Allofs commented: “He played well and gave his all for the club one more time.”

Christian Schulz moved to Bremen’s youth side from TSV Bassum as a twelve year old in 1995. As a professional he made 103 Bundesliga appearances for the Green-Whites and scored four goals. He also made 16 Champions League appearances (2 goals), played 21 games in the UEFA Cup (1 goal) and was selected for the German national side three times. His greatest success to date was the 2004 league and cup double win with the Green-Whites. Schulz also won the League Cup with Werder in 2006.
