A positive turn in the evaluation of the injury to Torsten Frings. The German international received the results of a detailed examination from knee specialist Dr. Heinz J. Eichorn and much to the releif of all at Werder, the cruciate ligament is not torn. The inspection did show some damage to the cruciate and outer ligaments of Frings right knee though. The result is that the midfield man will not have to undergo surgery and with the proper attention will be available to is trainer again in as little as six weeks.

 

Frings, who made his way to the clinic in Munich at 11am this morning and is already on his way back, was delighted with the prognisis: "I' totally relieved by the results. It is still frustrating of course that I've picked up an injury at this stage of the season but I will be back in the team in the foreseeable future."

 

General manager Klaus Allofs shares his players opinion: "Considering we were all expecting the worst and losing Torsten for a long period, we are very happy with the news. he will still be a great loss to the team but it's a very different situation now. Trainer Thomas Schaaf sees it as a light at the end of the tunnel after the string of injuries he's had top deal with lately: "Finally some good news, we haven't had so much of that lately. I'm delighted for torsten, and for the whole team, that it's not such a bad injury."
