Werder Bremen have had to sucumb to the currently tense personnel situation and cancel their friendly match against FSV Mainz 05. Team manager Klaus Allofs announced on Wednesday: “Weve put together a list of our injured players and it is now longer than the list of our fit, playable men. Under these circumstances, playing a friendly game makes absolutely no sense”, explained Allofs, who ensured that the decision to cancel is purely a sporting one: “If Werder Bremen is written on it, Werder Bremen should be there. I came to an understanding with my colleague in Mainz Christian Heidel and we will play the game at some point in the future.”
The current list of injured players at Werder Bremen reads as follows: Torsten Frings (cruciate ligament tear), Tim Wiese (back problem), Carlos Alberto (thigh problem), Hugo Almeida (ankle problem), Daniel Jensen (groin problem), Leon Andreasen (muscular problem), Petri Pasanen (Achilles tendon), Aaron Hunt (knee problem), Patrick Owomoyela (ham string tear). In addition, Naldo and Diego are still on holiday after their Copa America participation and are not expected back until Sunday. Martin Harnik just arrived back from the U20 World Cup in Canada on Tuesday.
