A week prior to the start of the Bundesliga season, Werder Bremen will get their active 2007/2008 season underway with an attractive tie in the DFB Cup (04/05.08.2007): Thomas Schaaf’s men will have to make the trip to relegated second division side Eintracht Braunschweig. The tie will see Schaaf meet up with Eintracht coach and ex-Werder colleague Benno Möhlmann. The Green-Whites coach will also meet up with Holger Wehlage again. The midfield man who won the double with Werder in 2004 landed in Braunschweig this summer after having played in Duisburg and Essen.

Thomas Schaaf is looking forward to the interesting challenge ahead: “It’s a good test for our team a week before the Bundesliga starts. Games in Braunschweig are always connected to a fantastic atmosphere in the stadium. For Eintracht it’s the opportunity to cause an upset and take that euphoria into a season they want to finish by winning promotion back to the second division. They will do everything in their power to win but it’s up to us to take this hurdle. We want to banish the ghosts of last season and get our good cup tradition back in motion.”

Team captain commented: “Eintracht will have the backing of a sell out crowd , spurning them on to a cup shock. There is guaranteed to be an atmosphere that will affect all of us and make it clear just how important this game is at the start of the season. That’s very important in my opinion. We can gather some confidence there and begin our journey to Berlin – but only if we perform better than in Primasens.”
