Following the announcement of the transfer of Miroslav Klose to FC Bayern Munich, the Werder Bremen general manager, Klaus Allofs, took some questions from press representatives on Tuesday afternoon. Werder.de were on hand to put together the most important answers.

Mr. Allofs, Miroslav Klose is now moving to FC Bayern Munich. Was this a foreseeable move despite all previous comments?

No, until yesterday afternoon we were pretty sure that Miro would be joining us for our trainings begin on Monday. Miro and Bayern then kicked off an initiative which eventually led us to allowing Miro to leave.

That puts an end to months of speculation about Miroslav Klose. Is there an amount of relief there now?

No, I wouldn’t exactly say that. He gave us a lot to think about and even during my holidays I had ‘Klose-Duties’ to write, but I wouldn’t say it’s been an uncomfortable situation for us. At the end of the day we found the best solution for Werder Bremen and that we can take as out standard.

Where did yesterdays negotiations take place?

We met with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeneß at the airport in Bremen as we already know that Hanover Airport is too closely monitored. The negotiations lasted over two hours.

Bayern’s distinctly improved offer surely had a decisive effect on allowing for the release.

Let’s put it this way, Bayern spoke of a ‘Fair solution’ in their press release. We would agree with that in Bremen but the decision to allow for the transfer was not a purely a financial one.

Then what was the reason?

Despite his declaration that he would see out his contract with Werder, at the end of the season Miro came to us and requested that we allow his to make an immediate move to Munich. We accepted his wishes and listened to the offer from Bayern which initially didn’t meet our approval. After that we could only have gone into the new season with a major headache with Miro. As he then requested a further set of negotiations, we had to ask ourselves if he had Werder in mind at all as a player.

How disappointed are you considering the developments of recent months?

I can deal with such seperations. I’m not disappointed in him personally but there is a level of general disappointment that, after three years of successful work together, the cooperation will not continue. We would have liked to have been able to agree on a long term contract extension. Miro brought a lot of positives to Werder. We both profited from each other and developed positively. You must remember, three years ago we had to do a lot of convincing that he was worth spending five million euro’s on. That was quickly forgotten – his sporting value has increased considerably.
