Werder Bremen's 2007/2008 pre-season plan is slowly but very surely taking shape. On Saturday, 14.07.2007 the Green-Whites will play a further friendly game.

Werder Bremen's 2007/2008 pre-season plan is slowly but very surely taking shape. On Saturday, 14.07.2007 the Green-Whites will play a further friendly game. In the tiny principality of Liechtenstein, Werder will take on Swiss giants and last seasons runner-up in the Swiss league, FC Basel. Kick off in Eschen-Mauren at the stadium 'Sportpark' will be at 7pm.

 

Werder will have happy memories of their previous meetings with the eleven time Swiss champions. In qualifying for the Champions League 05/06, the Green-Whites lost 1:2 in Basel but a confident 3:0 win at the Weser Stadium saw the German side progress to the group stage of the competition Two goals from Ivan Klasnic and one from Tim Borowski made the difference on the night.

 

Last season FC Basel finished in second place in the Swiss league, just one point adrift of champions Fc Zurich. By way of compensation, Basel too the Swiss cup for the eighth time but trainer Christian Gross has other plans for the coming season. Picking from the Bundesliga, Gross has signed Marco Streller from German champions VfB Stuttgart to boost his sides striking power.

 

Werder's summer programme to date:

 

Mon, 02.07.2007, 10am First training session of the new season followed by the trip to the trainings camp on Norderney.

 

Fri, 06.07.2007, 7pm Friendly game – Werder Bremen versus TuS Pewsum on Norderney, “Sportplatz an der Mühle”.

 

Sun, 08.07.2007, 4pm Friendly game – Werder Bremen versus an ‘Ostfriesland’ selection, in Loga (Leer).

 

Tue, 10.07.2007, 7:30pm Friendly game – VfL Oldenberg vs. Werder Bremen, Marschwegstadion, Oldenberg.

 

Thur, 12.07.2007 until Fri, 20.07.2007, second trainings camp in Bad Ragaz (Switzerland).

 

Sat, 14.07.2007: Friendly, Werder Bremen - FC Basel Liechtenstein.

 

Sat, 21.07.2007, League Cup quarter final in Dusseldorf, LTU Arena.

 

Tuesday, 31.07.2007 Friendly match, FC Everton – Werder Bremen, Goodison Park, Liverpool.
