Christian Schulz is due to make his international comeback. Werder Bremen’s left footed midfielder has been nominated by German national trainer Joachim Loew for Germany’s up-coming international friendly against Denmark on Wednesday, 28.03.2007 (kick-off 8pm). Schulz has made three full international appearances for his country, two during a tour of Asia in 2004 against Thailand and Japan, with his most recent appearance in February 2005 in a friendly against Argentina. The midfield man will make the trip to the team quarters in Dusseldorf along with team mate Clemens Fritz. Due to a suspension, the right dull back won’t join the team until Sunday week. The previous Saturday, 24.03.2007, Loew’s eleven will play a vital Euro 2008 qualifier against the Czech Republic in Prague. Both Torsten Frings and Per Mertesacker will join the national team on Tuesday, 20.03.2007 in Frankfurt to prepare for the tie. Tim Borowski and Miroslav Klose have both been left out of the squad through injury.

Aside from the four members of the German squad, seven further Werder players will be on international duty in the coming week. Jurica Vranjes and his Croatian colleagues will play Macedonia in Zagreb on 24.03.2007. Croatia are currently top of Euro 2008 qualifying Group E, three points ahead of Macedonia. Petri Pasanen’s Finnish side are also cream of their crop in Group A and intend to remain in top spot after they play the groups bottom side Aserbaijan in Baku on March 28th. Werder’s other Scandinavians Daniel Jensen and Markus Rosenberg will also be in action. Jensen will join up with his Danish colleagues to face Spain in Madrid on March 24th. The Danes are currently second in Group F and clear of the Spaniards who find themselves in a disappointing fifth spot. The Danes will then travel to Germany for their friendly in Duisburg on 28.03.2007. Top of Group F is Sweden with Markus Rosenberg. The Swedes have an immaculate 12 points from four games. Their next challenge will face them on March 28th when they take on Northern Ireland in Belfast.

Acknowledgement for the goals and performances of Portuguese striker Hugo Almeida has been aplenty of late and national coach Felipe Scolari has called the front man into the first team for their games in Lisbon against Belgium and four days later in Belgrade against Serbia. The Portuguese are back in fourth place and know they have some catching up to do.

The two remaining international stars in the Werder mix will be travelling to Sweden for two friendlies. The Brazilians Diego and Noldo, who has been nominated for the first time, will play Chile on March 24th and Ghana on the 27th.
