If two games in one week is known as an ‚English Week’ – what title can be given to a seven day period during which three matches must be played? ‘Tough work’, that’s for sure – especially when it includes flights right across Germany, and Europe, are also on the cards to sap time and energy from the players involved.

If two games in one week is known as an ‚English Week’ – what title can be given to a seven day period during which three matches must be played? ‘Tough work’, that’s for sure – especially when it includes flights right across Germany, and Europe, are also on the cards to sap time and energy from the players involved. Nonetheless, in Bremen the players are becoming veterans of such schedules. Vigo then Munich the Vigo – it’s as simple as that!!

Trainer Thomas Schaaf called only upon those not, or briefly, involved in Munich for the Monday training session. The rest had treatment to undergo or undertake a regenerations period at the Weser Stadium. That included the three players who suffered injuries prior to, or during, the clash with Bayern in Munich. Miroslav Klose, Daniel Jensen and Hugo Almeida all arrived at the stadium for intensive treatment. Miroslav Klose remarked: “My back and I are feeling better than yesterday. I don’t want to make a prognosis yet as to whether or not I will be able to play on Wednesday.” Klose collided heavily with a post during Werder’s 3:0 win against VfL Bochum last weekend and had to pull out of the game in Munich at the last moment.

Both Hugo Almeida and Daniel Jensen were in the starting eleven against Bayern but both had to make early exits having suffered so-called ‘Dead Legs’. The duo were treated with lymph drainage and massage leaving their availability for Wednesday hanging in the balance. Daniel Jensen admitted: “It’s a type of muscular injury that can heal in a day or take five days to be cured.” Trainer Thomas Schaaf was rather more optimistic: “I expect the three of them to be able to play against Celta Vigo.”
