A medical examination confirmed the injury to the 26 year old midfielder on Monday morning. Trainer Thomas Schaaf explained: “It’s very regrettable that Tim will not be available to us for such a long period. I hope that he will be back on his feet again quickly.”
Borowski, who due to injury has only been able to make sixteen appearances for Werder Bremen this season, scoring two goals, commented: “It will definitely take a few weeks. I haven’t given up hope of getting back before the final challenge for the championship begins.”
Miroslav Klose also underwent some medical examinations on Monday with a blood test revealing a bacterial infection which must be treated with antibiotics. It is as yet unclear as to how long Werder Bremen will be without their top striker.
After the 23rd match day of the Bundesliga season, Werder lie in third place in the table and are six points adrift of league leaders FC Schalke 04.
In the UEFA Cup, Thomas Schaaf’s men will face Spanish side RC Celta de Vigo in the round of the last sixteen of the tournament. The first leg of the tie will be played in Spain on March 8th, the return leg in Bremen will be played at the Weser Stadium on March 24th.
