Werder Bremen captain Frank Baumann underwent a successful operation on his left Achilles tendon on Wednesday afternoon. At the München-Bogenhausen hospital, the 31 year old had some degenerative tissue removed from the tendon by Dr. Ludwig Seebauer, who also operated on Baumann’s ankle in 2002.
The Werder midfielder returned to Bremen on Thursday and will begin his recovery programme at the “Sporthep Werder” with Dr. Götz Dimanski on Friday. Baumann commented: “I will begin rehabilitation training right away on Friday, in two weeks then I can start some aqua-jogging and ideally I will be able to return to team training in ten weeks time. I am delighted to finally have clarity and hope that I can avoid any set backs”
The 31 year old had been suffering from a recurring Achilles problem in recent months and the result of the problem was that the midfielder only managed eleven games for Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga this season, the last time back on November 7th 2006 against FC Nuremberg.
