Werder Bremen are taking on the fight against the black market trade of match tickets including the illegal bidding which takes place in internet auction houses. To aide in doing the club are counting on their fans for help.

For the Sunday, 04.02.2007 home match against Schalke 04, all standing tickets have been sold in personalised form. “That means that we know every ticket buyer by name”, explained ticket manager Jörg Fürst. “Should any person have sold his tickets at an extravagant price or auctioned them on the internet, we can see exactly who originally bought the ticket.” In accordance with the ticket regulations, the re-sale of tickets for a price above face value, as well as the auctioning of tickets on the internet is forbidden. “Those failing to apply with this will be excluded from the purchasing of tickets for a specified period of time”, continued Fürst.

To assist in snagging the ‘Black Sheep’ Werder Bremen are calling on the assistance of their fans. The fans in question are those who neither bought their tickets from Werder or an official outlet but rather at an inflated price from a third party or bought them over the internet. “We urge these people to hand over their tickets to us on leaving the stadium after the game”, said Jörg Fürst. For this purpose, an extra ticket holder will be placed at the north end of the stadium. The club would also appreciate the telephone number of persons depositing tickets to be written on the back of the tickets in case of further enquiries. “We are fully convinced that we can oust a large network of black market traders using this method”, concluded Fürst. The action will be repeated for the next home game on Saturday, 17.02.2007 when Hamburg SV visit the Weser Stadium.
