12 Green-Whites On International Duty

For the up-coming international friendly tie against Switzerland on Wednesday, 07.02.2007 at 8pm (Live on ZDF) in Dusseldorf’s LTU-Arena, German national coach Joachim Loew has nominated five Werder players for his squad.

The defenders Clemens Fritz, Per Mertesacker, midfielders Tim Borowski and Torsten Frings as well as striker Miroslav Klose have received the international call-up and will make the trip to Dusseldorf after their summit meeting with FC Schalke 04 on Sunday evening. The friendly game against Switzerland is the first international appointment of 2007 and the final chance to test the teams before the Euro 2008 qualifiers get underway again in March. With five players Werder have the largest representative of all Bundesliga clubs ahead of VfB Stuttgart (3) in the national team.

 

Miroslav Klose’s strike partner Aaron Hunt has been selected in the Under 21 squad who are posed to play their Scottish counterparts on Tuesday, 06.02.2007 at 7pm (Live on DSF) in Cunmbernauld, Scotland. Another Werder man representing his country at Under 21 level is Hugo Almeida, who is part of the Portuguese set up for the ‘International Tejo-Tal-Tournament’. The Portuguese will face Estonia on 06.02. and two days later they will then play in either the final or in the third place play-off against the winners, or losers, of the match between the Czech Republic and Slovenia.

 

Five further Werder players will be away on international duty next week. Pierre Wome will celebrate his comeback with Cameroon against Togo on Wednesday in Lome, Togo. One again Diego has been called into the Brazilian national side by trainer Carlos Dunga and will pull on the famaous ‘Selecao’ yellow when Brazil play Portugal in London on Tuesday evening. Daniel Jensen will also be in London with the Danish team to play Australia whilst Petri Pasanen will join up with his Finnish colleagues in Kilmarnock, Scotland for their test match against the Scottish eleven under new coach Alex McLeish on Wednesday 07.02.2007. On the same night, newly signed Green-White Markus Rosenberg will join the Swedish squad for their game against Egypt in Cairo.
