For the first time in over 30 years, Werder Bremen have a Swede within their ranks. Back then it was Sanny Aslund who played 19 games in goal for the Green-Whites during the 1975/1975 season, now it’s Markus Rosenberg.

”A dream come true”
On Friday morning the Swedish international was officially presented at the Weser stadium having finalised the details of his contract with Werder. The player explained: “It’s a great feeling to be here. This transfer is a dream come true for me”, glowed the new signing from Ajax Amsterdam and he continued: “Werder are a really good team. They play fast, offensive football – it’s the perfect tactic for my game.”
Werder coach Thomas Schaaf expects a real boost to the team from Rosenberg, the new Bremen number 9 who has signed a contact until 30.06.2011: “We’ve known Markus for years and registered the performances he’s served up at Ajax Amsterdam a long time ago. We’ve noticed in him all the abilities he needs to bring this team forward.”Klaus Allofs admitted that Rosenberg was a candidate for a move in summer: “The fact that we were down to just three strikers recently was surely not optimal. The decision to sign now was brought on by the fact that he was no longer first choice at Ajax. It’s a parallel to the Diego situation with FC Porto”, explained the team manager.
Markus Rosenberg’s anticipation of a chance to play in the Bundesliga was clear to see: “The German Bundesliga is much better than the Dutch Ehrendivision. In contrast to Ajax, Werder play with a 4-42 system. That system is in my blood and it’s the perfect situation to get 100% out of me”, admitted the 24 year old.
Cleared to play in the Bundesliga
Rosenberg is not available to play for Werder in the UEFA Cup having been involved in the tournament three times for Ajax<Amsterdam. The 1,85m striker has the go ahead to play in the Bundesliga though. Should Thomas Schaaf wish to use him, the Swede would be eligible to play against Hanover on Sunday, just two days after signing for the Green-Whites.
