Peter Niemeyer Signs For Werder Bremen

Werder Bremen have announced the signing of PeterNiemeyer. The 23 year old defender makes the move to the Weser from Twente Enschede and has signed a contract keeping him with the Green-Whites until 30.06.2011.

“With Peter Niemeyer we have managed to capture yet another talented German player. He gives the impression of being a very bright youngster and possesses fantastic ability”, explained a very satisfied Klaus Allofs after the deal had been completed. Coach Thomas Schaaf added: “Peter Niemeyer excelled as a defensive midfielder and also as a central defender at Twente. We hope to further extend his development here in Bremen.”

 

From Riesenbeck and Emsdetten through Enschede to Werder

 

Peter Niemeyer began his football at SV Teuto Riesenbeck before moving to Borussia Emsdetten at Under 15 level. Three years later he took the step across the near by Dutch border to play for Twente Enschede. He has been a member of the Dutch first division sies professional squad since the 2002/2003 season and scored four goals in 106 appearances for the club. Niemeyer is 1,91m tall and weighs in at 83kg. Under trainer Dieter Eilts he made six appearances for the German Under 21 side between November 2005 and May 2006.

Werder Bremen invite all interested media representatives to join in a press conference on Wednesday, 17.01.2007 at 12:30pm. The new signing Peter Niemeyer will be officially presented as a Werder player and will take questions from the press along with Thomas Shaaf and Klaus Allofs. The event will, as always, take place in the press room of the East Block at the Weser Stadium.
