The Bundesliga's 'Player of the Month' for October 2006 comes yet again from Werder Bremen. Midfield super star Diego picked up 39,15% of the votes for this months poll. The Brazilian left team mate Torsten fringsbehind in third place (27,08%) and VfB Stuttgart's young striker Mario Gomez in second (33,77%).
The voting is held between Germany's top footballing weekly 'Kicker', the television sport channel DSF and members of the German football league (DFL) every month, with the exceptions of January, June and July, the traditionally football free period. Over the past year the whole event has been amazingly dominated by the Green-Whites with a Werder bremen player winning six of the past ten awards.
The acknowledgement of the football that Werder play is massive within the Bundesliga itself with captains from the 18 Bundesliga sides selecting a Werder man as their favourite of the month on ten occasions. That means that aside from the six winners, four further Green-Whites made the top three. In August Werder managed a unique top double with Diego first and Miroslav Klose in second.
