Levski in record breaking form, Chelsea take a sligh stumble and Barcelona cruise on - that was the weekend for Werder Bremen's Champions League opponents.

The most noticeable achievement of the previous weekend was the performance of Werder'sd next Group opponents Levski Sofia. The Bulgarians won thanks to goals from Yovov (9') and Telkiyski (52') in front of a crowd of 9,500 against neighbours Slavia Sofia, the result was that after eight games and twenty two points they've seen their way past all league opponents without conceding a single goal.

Another reason to sit up and take notice at the weekend was Chelsea's 1:1 draw in front of their own crowd against Aston Villa. The English champions had registered eleven wins on the trot to that point at Stamford Bridge. Didier Drogba had given the home side the lead as early as the third minute with his fifth of the season which trainer José Mourinho described as "The best footballing performance of the season." Villa though are a different team this season under the trainership of Martin O' Neill and are as yet unbeaten. Thanks to the heroics of keeper Thomas Sorenson and pure will the Birmingham sie were level by half time with a goal by Agbonlahor. The 'Blues' battled hard with a luckless Andrej Schevchenko up front but could earn no more than a point, much to their coaches frustration: "They had one chance, we had ten. It was clear for all to see that we didn't deserve to drop points here." The point wasn't enough to stop Chelsea slipping back to second place behind Manchester United.

FC Barcelona on the other hand appeared to have recovered frokm the tough challenge at the Weser Stadium and the severe injury to Samuel Eto'o - but it took time. In Bilbao, the hosts took the lead through Yeste after eleven minutes. Still in the first half though and the situation was to become a lot more critical for Athletico with the red card being shown to Casas with less than twenty minutes on the clock. Barca coach Frank Rijkaard saw the opportunity to boost his attacking power and brought Ludovic Guily on the half hour. An own goal by Aldekoatalora put the Catalan side back on level terms before the break and after it was Eto'o's replacements Gudjohnsen and Saviola who finished off Bilbao with a 3:1 win. Barcelona remain top of the table but have FC Valencia and FC Seville snapping firmly at their heels.
