Werder Bremen convincingly defeated VSK Osterholz-Scharmbeck 9:0 (8:0) on Tuesday night. In a very one sided tie, the Green-Whites goals were scored by Mohamed Zidan (22’, 27’, 34’ and 40’), a hat trick for Naldo ( 4’, 20’ and 61’) and one each for Diego (13’) and Hugo Almeida (39’). Andreas Reinke, who was replaced by Christian Vander for the second half, also managed to save a penalty (35’).
Werder make an explosive start
Werder made a stunning start to the game at the Osterholz-Scharmbeck stadium with defender Naldo giving the visitors the lead from a corner after just four minutes. The Bundesliga side kept up the pressure and doubled their lead after 13 minutes. Playmaker Diego let fly with a 20 yard drive which ended up in the top left corner of the VSK goal. Seven minutes went by before Naldo again got his name on the score sheet. The Brazilian was again on hand to head home a Diego corner – 3:0.
The Zidan Show
Directly from the re-start the Zidan Show began. Latching on to a pass the Egyptian made it 4:0 in the 22nd minute. Shortly afterwards the 24 year old was at it again, chipping wonderfully over the VSK keeper to make it 5:0 before completing his hat-trick in the 34th minute. Hugo Almeida nodded down a long Andi Reinke clearance to the feet of Diego. The Brazilian took on the ball and selflessly picked out Zidan who coolly finished.
Penalty for Osterholz-Scharmbeck
Then, for the first time the home side launched a dangerous attack on the Werder goal. After an unfortunate foul by Patrick Owomoyela on Lucas Buchwald, the referee pointed to the penalty spot. The resulting Peer Joekel penalty was parried by Reinke though. 60 seconds later the next Werder storm rolled towards the VSK goal. Again it was the wirey Zidan out on the right involved, passing to Hugo Almeida. The Portugese international took his shot on the volley and hammered home to make it 7:0. Just before the break followed Werders eight strike. This tie it was Leon Andreasen feeding Zidan who scored his fourth and made the half time score 8:0 (41’).
Werder take the foot off for second 45
Werder made two changes at the start of the second period with Vander replacing Reinke and Wome coming for Diego. It took until the 61st minute before Naldo got his third of the night with yet another header from yet another corner – 9:0. The Green-Whites were happy to play out the tie without burning up too much energy and the coach made three further changes to the side with Borowski coming for Naldo, Baumann for Hunt and Harnik for Zidan but despite further chances for Almeida (80’), Harnik (81’ and 90’) and Borowski (90’), the scoreline remained 9:0.
