Per Mertesacker will make his debut in the Green-White of Werder Bremen on Tuesday evening at 6pm when his new club play a friendly against VSK Osterholz-Scharmbeck. The news was confirmed by coach Thomas Schaaf: “Per is delighted to be able to get involved at last. It’s very important for him to play against real opponents again as opposed to just in training with his team mates”, explained the 46 year old.

Two important players who won’t be available against the non-league side will be German internationals Miroslav Klose and Torsten Frings. The pair underwent medical treatment rather than training over the past two days. With Miro Klose’s foot injury looking like possibly keeping him out of Saturday’s clash with Hamburg SV (Schaaf: “We’ll have to wait and see”), there is still hope that Torsten Frings will be fit in time to take part in the northern derby. After suffering with knee problem the 29 year old commented: “It’s looking good, the pain is not so bad anymore.” The midfielder who hopes to get back into training on Wednesday continued: “I don’t know yet if I’ll just be jogging or if I will be able to train with the team.”

Others who will not be involved against Osterholz-Scharmbeck will be Daniel Jensen (groin problem), Petri Pasanen (knee injury) and Ivan Klasnic (ankle sprain). Each was able to take on an individual training session with physio Stefan Wolters on Tuesday.
