There wasn’t much action on the trainings pitches around the Weser Stadium on Monday morning. The professional players had been given a day off by coach Thomas Schaaf. Only a small number turned up for some medical treatment or for individual training.
An intensive analysis of the defeat by VfB Stuttgart and the current dissatisfaction among the Green-Whites was pushed forward to be dealth with immediately on Sunday. Before Schaaf led his players out onto the trainings pitch, there was a 70 minute discussion held to discuss everything: “The opportunity presented itself as we finally have a week where even the national players are available. That hasn’t happened often in recent weeks”, said Thomas Schaaf. The coach of course didn’t want to into detail on the exact issues involved: “We have the same problems that a lot of other clubs have too but we don’t discuss that in public as other teams like Bayern do. We accept the situation, we register the things which aren’t functioning and want to dispel them.”
Vice-captain Torsten Frings supports his trainer in this particular element: “The contents of these discussions remain internal. It’s clear that the trainer said the right things. Now everyone will have to take a good look at themselves, do what is expected of them and not talk too much about it.”
Torsten Frings himself was unable to participate in training on Sunday, instead undertaking some medical treatment: “I’ve had an injection for a problem with his knee which I’ve had for a few days now. I hope it’s settled itself now.”
Trainer Schaaf has set the next public training session for 10am on Tuesday morning.
