A single goal this Wednesday in Germany's Euro 2008 qualifier against San Marino would see Miroslav Klose join the elite top ten tist of the best strikers of al time in the national colours. So far the Werder Bremen striker has scored an impressive 31 goals in just 64 international appearances for Germany. For the 28 year old though that is far by the way-side: "It's not important whether or not I score three or four goals but rather that we win the game convincingly as a team", explained Klose at a press conference at the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadium in Stuttgart.
The striker is well aware though the the apparently easy opponent should not be taken too lightly or underestimated: "We can't afford to make that mistake." The danger of doing so is also clear to national and club team mate Torsten Frings. The midfield engine is hopeful that his team have learned from previous experiences when they for example only narrowly escaped and embarressment on the Faroe Islands, winning 2:0 thanks to a goal in the last minute: "We saw there what can happen when you underestimate your opponents", added frings to the discussion.
Klose is expecting to be faced with a compact and tightly drilled defensive opponent in San Marino. Still, the Bundesliga's top scorer from the last season is confident of goal success along with strike partner Lukas Podolski: "We must try to break them by hitting them along the flanks. That's our strenght", said Klose, who sees a recently unimpressive Podolski as now being on the up-and-up: "Our play together improves from week to week. Lukas is now gathering his confidence in the national team to implement in the Bundesliga."
