Werder Bremen have won the third friendly in their pre-season preparations. It was another impressive Green-White performance with a 10:0 (5:0) final scoreagainst TSV Ottersberg. The 3,000 spectators at the 'Sportplatz an der Wümme' saw Werder play fast, attractive football over long periods coupled with effectivity in front of goal.

In spite of the high final score, Werder had problems finding their way into the game. The hosts held out well for the first ten minutes with a tightly packed defence and well worked counter attacks but before long the noticeably strong Diego and Co. took ever more control of proceedings and began to create chances. It was a pass from the Brazilian that lead to the Green-Whites taking the lead. Diego found Daniel Jensen with a through ball and the Dane slipped the ball from the right into the far left corner.

The Bundesliga sides new Brazilian signing stepped up a gear on the back of his assist for Jensen. Following an inch perfect cross, Almeida rose highest to head a goal for his new club on his debut. In the 25t minute the young Portugese international then doubled his tally, this time with his foot. The young striker, and 2004 Champions League winner, got on the end of a long ball and despite his best efforts, keeper Hamann could do nothing to stop his side going 3:0 down (25').

Almeida showed that he's more than just a goalscorer though by setting up Werders fourth. The 22 year old headed a cross into the path of Diego who dummied the opposition keeper with a drop of the shoulder before chipping under the crossbar from three meters (28'). A footballing delight. The Bundesliga sides fifth was somewhat more rough and ready. The speedy Rockenbach was brought down in the box and Diego stepped up, placing the ball strongly in the bottom left corner.

Trainer Thomas Schaaf made a complete change at half time and started the second half with a fresh eleven. The game took the very same flow despite the changes. Again it took Werder a few minutes to find their feet during which time Ottersberg also had two or three good openings which were well dealt with by Christian Vander in the Werder goal. Naldo broke the second half deadlock with a header in the 65th minute. It was a determined solo by Aaron Hunt that finished in Werder going 7:0 up (78') against an ever weakening opponent. Naldo was on the score sheet again with another header (83') and Polenz got in on the act to make it 9:0 (89'). Mohamed Zidan dribbled past two defenders and the keeper to make the final score a satisfying 10:0.

Thomas Schaaf was careful not to make too much of the high scoring win but was happy with his teams performance: "Following some tough training the team took on this task in very concentrated fashion and used their chances. They moved very well and we can work on that."
