"Starting on Sunday suits us fine", remarked general manager Klaus Allofs on the first tie at the AWD Arena in Hanover: "It means those joining training later will ahve an extra day to prepare with the team."
The first home game (on matchday 2) will take place on Saturday, 19.08.2006 at 3:30pm against Bayer Leverkusen. The third game will be at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen against Schalke 04 on Friday, 25.08.2006 at 8:30pm which Klaus Allofs is also happy about: "Friday games were always something special". Captain Frank Baumann is also happy about the game plan: "It's nice to see Friday games coming back into the schedule. That game will surely be a highpoint", glowed the 30 year old.
The following two matchdays (4 and 5) will both be home games for Werder against VfB Stuttgart (16.09.2006) and Hamburg SV (23.09.2006). Both are Saturday ties at 3:30pm.
