When the German national take on Argentina on Friday evening to battle for a place in the quarter finals, Werder Bremen's representatives will play a vital roll. Above all te experience of Torsten Frings will be essential. The Bremen midfielder is the only player from the national eleven who has played in the last three meetings with South American opponents. From his recollections, the 29 year old has found a great deal of reason to be confident: "In recent times we came very close on two occassions. We were twice almost the better team - on Friday it's simply our turn. We haven't been as strong in the last two years as we are now."

In the opinion of the midfield motor, it's time for Germany to breal their duck against one of the 'Big' football nations - against which the German national side haven't managed a win in six years: "I'm convinced that we can do it this time. On Friday it will be the time to beat one of the big ones. I haven't spent a second with the idea that we could be eliminated", glowed Frings.

In the Werder mans opinion, the key to his sides success lies in keeping faith in their own strength's: "We have played too well of late to change our system. We won't change to suit Argentina rather play our game. I don't think that I'm going to have to spend 90 minutes chasing behind an opposition player."

The German national team haven't managed to beat the Argentinians in their last two meetings but they haven't lost either. Both games, which took place in 2005, ended 2:2. A good omen - on one occasion the scorer was one Torsten Frings. In Dusseldorf on 09.02.2005, he put away a penalty kick to give Germany a 1:0 lead.
