Ivan Klasnic and Jurica Vranjes got off to a losing start in their World Cup, going down 1:0 to current title holders Brazil. Ivan Klasnic made the starting eleven in front of 72,000 at the FIFA World Cup Stadium Berlin but was substituted just two minutes after his best chance with Ivica Olic taking his place in the 56th minute. Klasnic's shot from the edge of the box was gathered by keeper Dida at the second attempt. Jurica Vranjes remained on the bench on this occassion.
Brazil's winning goal was scored just before the half time whistle by Kaká (44') with a left footed curling shot from 20 meters into the to left corner of the net. Croatia gave Brazil plenty of headaches and were in control of possession for long periods in particular during the second half but failed to use their chances effectively. Croatia are now back in third place in their group F table after their first game behind Australia and Brazil (both on three points) and ahead of Japan who lost their opener 3:1 against the Aussies. Klasnic, Vranjes and Co. have their next outing on Sunday in Nuremburg against Japan.
