The first friendly games in Werder Bremens pre 2006/2007 season preparations have been announced. As is their tradition, Werder will play their first pre-season friendly on the island of Norderney. The Green-Whites will appear for the first time of the season at 7pm on 07.07.2006. The opponent for this game has yet to be decided. Werder Bremen then have a further friendly against newly promoted second division side Rot-Weiß Essen. The game will be played at 6pm on Sunday, 16.07.2006 at the Georg-Melches-Stadion.
The Green-Whites will also play three games during their intensive training week in Schurns, Austria. On Friday, 21,07.2006 Werder will play ex-Sebia and Montenegro league runner up Partizan Belgrade. Two days later, on Sunday, 23.07.2006 will then be a real test against Greek champions and Champions League participants Olympiakos Piräus. The opponents for the final game in Austria on Wednesday, 26.07.2006 will be relegated Bundesliga side Kaiserslautern.
