The task ahead will probably not be as easy as their opposing positions in the table may indicate. There are 14 other teams between Bremen and the bottom club from the Ruhr Valley. Thomas Schaaf commented: "If we are to win the game we are going to have to be concentrated and determined in how we play. We can't afford to think that Duisburg are just going to roll over and give up the fight. They will do everything in their power to clutch at the slim chance of avoiding that they still have." Tim Borowski see's the situation similarly to his coach: "Duisburg will definately want to bow out of top flight football on a high note".
Frings: "Duisburg have nothing to lose"
Nelson Valdez also believes that the Duisburg side will really give it one final bash: "The players are going to play their hearts out to make other clubs take notice", explained the striker who see's the game as especially difficult considering both sides positions at this stage of the season: "This time around we've had quite a few problems against teams from the bottom third of the table." Torsten Frings is also quite sure that the task will not be an easy one: "It's always difficult to face sides who have nothing left to lose", in the opinion of the midfielder who feels the Zebra's can play freely with the chances of making the safety of 15th place rather unlikely.
The chances of Frings playing himself on Wednesday are not at all bad in a game that could prove vital in Bremen securing a Champions League qualifying place: "I'm doing fine", exclaimed the 29 year old who is ready to return after a shin injury. Definately out of the tie are Frank Baumann, Jurica Vranjes (both torn knee ligaments) and Aaron Hunt who has just undergone surgery on his knee.
MSV eight points from safety
For MSV Duisburg who have now gone eight games without a win, this will be the last slight chance to stay afloat the Bundesliga boat. The 'Zebra's' currently have 23 points and are some eight points away from a non-relegation place. Mihai Tararache (fifth yellow), Markus Hausweiler, Andreas Voss (both knee problems) and Necat Aygün (knee operations) are all out of the tie on Wednesday. Marco Caligiuri could be about to return having returned from a muscle sinew injury.
