Torsten Frings has returned to team training after a five week break and rehabilitations pause, coming through his first session without any problems. The central midfielder who had suffered a shin injury completed the full session with his team mates and was on target on several occasions as the session ended with a match. Afterwards the German international was careful about his progress. "All in all my return was okay. I can still feel a bit of a pull in the bone but no pain. It was just the first training though, I'll have to wait and see how I cope with it. Only then can I get a picture of whether or not I can play against Duisburg", explained frings who intends to put in an extra shift on training free Sunday. "I have another treatment and then we'll discuss how things should continue tomorrow."

Werder striker Nelson Valdez was also in for treatment on Saturday. The training session was over for the Paraguayan international after just 35 minutes. The striker pulled up with adductoral problems on the left side after twisting on the ball and was unable to continue: "Further treatment will show how long I'll have to rest for. I hope it's not too serious", said Valdez on his way to the changing rooms.

There was a shook for keeper Tim Weise too on Saturday when he sprung to collect a high ball, the keeper colloided with Petri Pasanen and landed heavily on his head and shoulder on the edge of his six yard box. The 24 year old was able to continue after a short breather though much to the relief of his trainer. In the meantime, reserve keeper Christian Vander took up the position between the posts.

Also on the return is club captain Frank Baumann. The midfield man completed aindividual training but hopes to return to train with his colleagues soon. Jerome Polenz and Pekka Lagerbloom were also excused from training as they were to prop up the reserve team for their game against Holstein Kiel later in the afternoon.
