It was with a great deal of disappointment that Werder made the journey back to Bremen without all three points from Wolfsburg in the bag. Everyone in the Green-White camp now knows for sure that the abttle for second place has become distinctly more difficult. Patrick Owomoyela see's the situation so: "It was our plan to have the chase for second place in our own hands and be in control of our own destiny. That's not possible anymore." Head coach Thomas Schaaf commented: "We are not satisfied with that result, we should have done better but life goes on."

Despite the setback, Werder are keeeping their goal intact. Teammanager Klaus Allofs: "HSV's run in is just as tough as ours - nothing has been decided yet. Prior to the final game of the season we'll have to have reduced the defecit to HSV to three points." Nelson Valdez is also hopeful of a slip up by Hamburg: "We're going to stick at it and if HSV drop points, we'll be there."

Before that, Werder have to prepare for what could be a vital clash in the battle to secure third place when Schalke 04 visit the Weser Stadum. "I'M disappointed because we could have done a lot today to keep Schalke at bay. Schalke also just drew too. Next week we will have to secure third place", noted Petri Pasanen. A win would mean with nine points and a massive goal difference, Werder would be safely third in the table.

Exactly that situation is extra motivation for the Finn who was by far the best battler in the Werder side on Saturday (82% of challenges won). As many of his colleagues, he is going into the final four games of the season full of confidence despite the set back in Wolfsburg. "I'm optimistic for the run-in. All-in-all we are in good form. We've taken ten ponts from the last four games - that's not at all bad. We will launch an attack on second place."

To help them tank up for the task ahead, trainer Thomas Schaaf has given his players a rest over the Easter holidays. The next official team training will take place on Tuesday, 18.04.2006 at 10am.
