Werder Bremen's personnel problems continue into this week. With the week kicking off with preparations for the north German clash between Werder and VfL Wolfsburg, trainer Thomas Schaaf has two new injuries to deal with. Striker Miroslav Klose has been forced to rest up with an ankle problem. The German international commented: "I need to take a bit of a rest but it's nothing too serious. I'll take it easy tonight and see if I can get back in amoungst it tomorrow." Aside from Klose, centre half Naldo has also had to take a break. The Brazilian is suffering from a infection to a nail bed in his left foot. "We'll have to wait and see how much pain this infection will cause him. We are going to allow it to run it's course and make our decisions from day to day", explained coach Schaaf.
Along side the two most recent injury worries, the coach will still be without captain Frank Baumann (ligament tear in left knee), Aaron Hunt (patella tendom syndrom), Jelle van Damme (muscular problems in left thigh) and Torsten Frings (calf strain) at the weekend, all are undertaking their own rehabilitation programmes. "Jogging went quite well, I intend to increase the level of training tomorrow and then rejoing team training on Thursday", explained a battling Torsten Frings.
Only the news from Johan Micoud has thrown a positive light on the situation. The French playmaker is back in team training. The ankle injury he picked up against Bayern Munich has healed fully.
