In his career, miroslav Klose has played thirteen games against Bayern Munich and has yet to win one. This run should come to an end on Saturday: "There has always got to be a first time", claimed the striker optimistically. The German international knows only too well that that will be no easy task though: "I expecta real battle of a game which could get a bit rough. The game means a lot." Miro Klose is not particularly interested in the fact that he will be meeting with a competitor for the top scorer award in Roy Makaay on Saturday. "To become top scorer would be a nice extra honour but it's not neccessary. For me it's all about second place anf three points."

"Three points matter, no matter who you are playing"

It's 'ONLY' about three points for the Werder coach Thomas Schaaf too: "It doesn't matter who you get the points against", in the 45 year olds opinion although he refuses to over value the match. For Patrick Owomoyela, the game against Bayern is important for the remaining games of the season: "A good performance would give us more self-confidence, we have some difficult tasks ahead of us over the coming weeks", but for the moment completed concentration should be centered on Bayern: "We've got to think from game to game and do the job in each one to maintain our position", Owomoyela remarked.

A win for Werder Bremen could again open up the race for the title. A win for HSV against Borussia Mönchengladbach would then put them within four points of the leaders and leave Bremen only seven points adrift with five games to go. Thomas Schaaf is no longer thinking about the title though: "I'm only thinking about what is in grasping distance which is for us, a direct qualifying place for the Champions League.

The chances of Werder beating the Munich side are not at all bad with Bayern on a five game stretch without a win. The champions haven't won a game since exiting from the Champions League against AC Milan. Their last outing was a 2:2 draw at home against bottom side Cologne. With Sebastian Deisler (knee injury), Ali Karimi (syndmosis tear) and Bixente Lizarazu (calf problem) trainer Felix Magath will be without three important players.

Pre-match injuries

Werder trainer Thomas Schaaf is not without his personnel problems either. While Aaron Hunt (knee tendon problem), Jelle van Damme (left thigh problem) and Frank Baumann (inner ligament tear in left knee) are all definately out, a real question hangs over the involvement of Torsten Frings (calf strain). Goalkeeper Tim Wiese will be able to play against Bayern and Nelson Valdez trained on Thursday again without problems after his knee problem.
