Neither side were particularly happy with the out come of the midweek tie with a draw being of little use to Werder nor Stuttgart in the race to fulfil their individual goals for the season.

VfB coach Trapattoni: "Both teams began a little cagey. Werder were more intensive in the second half, I think the draw is a correct result. We have a lot of games coming up and I will have to switch things around, I've no problem with that. I had to take out Hinkel with an injury.

I wasn't happy with the last two games but tonight is o.k."

Werder coach Thomas Schaaf: "We had the clearer chances tonight, maybe they were too easy but we did play well. We take a point away with us and I was happy about the fact that wee were stabile at the back, we didn't give them many chances."

VfB captain Soldo: "Werder are playing better football at the moment and they showed that tonight. The fact is that we haven't played well in the first three games but we had chances. We are playing badly and must improve going forward."

Werder captain Torsten Frings: "We played well but didn't score, you can't give anyone the blame for that. We had a number of good chances, if we'd just used one of them we would have won the match - Stuttgart did nothing up front."

VfB midfielder Christian Tiffert: "It's nothing to do with the system, we have one good move and five poor ones. We are our own worst enemies, we have good players."

VfB midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger: "We just don't score enough goals. We must do more up top. We are solid at the back but if you want to win games you have to score goals."

VfB defender Ludovic Magnin: "We're solid at the back but just not good enough going forward. We will have to analyse that. We have to take what we can from that game and improve ourselves. We still have to battle for a UEFA Cup spot.

Werder striker Ivan Klasnic: "We had the chances but we didn't score the goals. I thought we were clearly the better side."

VfB keeper Timo Hildebrand: "I feel sorry for the supporters, they deserved a better game - we have a problem at the moment."
