It was the perfect way to celebrate a win. The 'GrünWeiße Nacht 2006' (Green-White Night) at the Bremen Congress Centre attended by some 2,000 guests. Following a spectacular game at the Weser Stadium, more fans than ever wanted to celebrate with the team with a distinct number of cards going on the night.
The 'Bremen Ball of the Year' included entertainment from shooting star Tom Gäbel. Jürgen L. Born, chairman of the board, not only had a few words for those available but also supported the Big Band on the trombone. In the Karaoke Bar there were selected talented and less talented singers to be heard. There was fun to be had for all and even Willi Lemke, with support from team doctor Dr. Götz Dimanski had a song for the crowd to enjoy.
The real fun began after midnight with the tombola draw taking place, presented by Werder media boss Tino Polster. Tickets for the draw were in high demand with even the Werder players digging deep for the youth policy. Torsten Frings left empty handed: "Pity, I missed out on one of the top prizes by one number, but the three points in the Bundesliga are more important", commented Frings who celebrated the win and the fun od the GrünWeißeNacht long into the night. Two of Werders players who held out longest were Johan Micoud and Jelle van Damme who mixed with the guests into the early hours.
"It was a fantastic event. We've had a lot of positive feedback and will meet in the next few days to discuss plans for the next GrünWeißeNacht in two years time", glowed Werder marketing boss Oliver Rau who was in charge of organisation.
