Captain Frank Baumann is staying Green-White. The 30 year old midfielder, who has been in Bremen since 1999, signed a contract extension that will keep him at Werder until 30.06.2009. Werder manager Klaus Allofs commented on Friday: "I'm very happy to have had such a positive response to this personnel situation. Frank Baumann is our captain long term and has been an essential part of our sporting success." Trainer Thomas Schaaf was also happy with the result of the contract talks: "He is a very important part of our playing system. It's good for us that we can hold on to him."
The midfielder is looking forward to the challenges of the next three years: "The cooperation during my time at Werder was always very good. Both sides have profited from this and we can now continue - I'm very happy here. We've built up a lot here and want that to go on. Physically I'm in very good condition and I hope we can win a few more titles."
Frank Baumann moved to Werder Bremen from 1.FC Nuremburg in the summer of 1999 and was made captain after just a year at his new club.
